SQLMurder is a browser-based detective game that teaches SQL (Structured Query Language — the standard language for asking questions of a database). You solve fictional 1949 murder cases by writing real queries against a real database that runs inside your browser; no software to install, nothing to download.

It is sold once, not rented. There is no subscription, no recurring charge, and nothing to cancel.

Free — Chapters 1 to 3

  • Playable immediately, with no account and no payment details.
  • Covers SELECT, named columns, WHERE, ORDER BY, LIMIT, LIKE, and INNER JOIN.
  • Roughly the first hour of the story. It is a real portion of the game, not a demo scene.

Full game — US$30, one time

A single payment of US$30 unlocks Chapters 4 through 14 permanently for your account. That includes:

  • All eleven remaining cases and the complete story, including its ending.
  • LEFT JOIN and IS NULL, GROUP BY and HAVING, subqueries, CTEs, window functions, CASE, self-joins, then INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE, constraints, transactions, triggers, and views.
  • Case Review practice sessions, which generate fresh exercises from each case’s data.
  • Both SQLite and PostgreSQL, running entirely in your browser.
  • Progress synced to your account, so you can continue on another device.

What “one-time” means

  • No subscription. You are charged once. Nothing renews, and there is nothing to cancel.
  • Lifetime access to the paid chapters for your account, for as long as we operate the service.
  • No extra purchases. There are no chapter packs, hints, currency, or upsells inside the game.

Tax, currency, and receipts

Prices are in US dollars. The $30 shown is the price including any sales tax or VAT — the checkout total is what you see, wherever you are.

Payment is sold and processed by Stripe, which acts as the merchant of record. Stripe collects the payment, handles applicable tax, and emails your receipt. Your card statement will show Stripe, not SQLMurder. We never receive or store your card details.

How to buy

Play the free chapters first — you do not need an account to start. When you want the rest, sign in with Google (so the purchase and your progress follow you across devices) and use any Buy the story button: on the case board, in the account menu, or on any locked case.

Refunds

There is a 14-day money-back guarantee: within 14 days of purchase you can ask for a refund for any reason and we will approve it. Refunds are processed by Stripe. See the refund policy for how to request one and what happens to your access.
