Terms of Service
These are the rules for playing SQLMurder (the “service”). By playing, you accept them. They’re written to be read.
Who operates this service
SQLMurder (sqlmurder.com) is operated by Cash Conway, a sole proprietor trading as SQLMurder, in the United States. “We” and “us” below mean that operator.
Contact: cashcon57@gmail.com. This is the address for support, billing questions, refunds, privacy requests, and legal notices; a real person reads it.
Order process and merchant of record
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Stripe. Stripe is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Stripe provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
1 · The service
SQLMurder is an educational detective game that teaches SQL through a fictional noir story. The story, its characters, and its crimes are fiction; the game depicts violence in a clinical register and is not directed at children under 13. Chapters 1–3 are free and playable without an account; Chapters 4–14 require a single one-time purchase (see Purchases below).
2 · Accounts
An account is optional. Signing in with Google saves your chapter progress and authored campaign choices across devices. You’re responsible for activity under your account, and you may delete it at any time from the in-game account menu (▾ → Delete account + data), which permanently erases it along with all server-side progress and choices.
3 · Purchases, access, and refunds
- What you buy. Chapters 4–14 unlock with a single one-time purchase of US$30. It is not a subscription — there is nothing recurring to cancel. It grants lifetime access to the paid chapters for your account, for as long as we operate the service.
- Merchant of record. Payment is sold and processed by Stripe as the merchant of record (our reseller), not by us. Your purchase is also subject to Stripe’s consumer terms. Stripe handles payment, applicable sales tax/VAT, your receipt, and any refunds or disputes. We never receive or store your card details.
- Refunds. We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee: within 14 days of purchase you may request a refund for any reason. Refund requests are handled through Stripe. If a refund or chargeback for your purchase is approved, the corresponding access to Chapters 4–14 may be revoked, while Chapters 1–3 remain free to play. Full details are in our refund policy.
- Pricing and promotions. The price and any launch discount codes may change over time; the price shown at checkout is the price that applies to your purchase.
4 · Acceptable use
- Don’t attack, probe, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or its infrastructure.
- Don’t scrape, resell, or redistribute the service or its content as your own.
- Don’t use the service to violate the law or others’ rights.
(Curiosity inside the game is not abuse. Running strange SQL against the game’s in-browser database is the whole point.)
5 · Your content
Your typed detective name and case notes stay on your device (see the privacy policy). If you send us feedback, you grant us permission to use it to improve the game, with no obligation or compensation.
6 · Our content
The game — its story, characters, writing, artwork, design, and code — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright. Music by Karl Casey @ White Bat Audio. Playing grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the service; it does not transfer any ownership.
7 · Availability, warranty, and liability
The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it at any time. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim (for the free chapters, nothing; for the full game, the one-time price you paid, up to US$30).
8 · Termination
You can stop playing, or delete your account, at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Sections 5–9 survive termination.
9 · Governing law & changes
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll update the effective date above; continuing to play after a change means you accept it.
